Every year Associated Students Incorporated puts together a planner for the students of California State University, San Bernardino. I was the lead designer for the 2017 – 2018 school year planner. Inside the planners, we advertise our department’s services and include maps of the campus, directories, places of interest, and many helpful tips and tools for studying and making the most out of the university experience. We were concerned that students may not be aware of the usefulness of the planner, and were using only the calendar. We decided that we would come up with a way to encourage students to explore the whole planner.
Travel and “wanderlust” are popular among the students at CSUSB, so we chose “Road Trip” as the theme for this planner. We illustrated an ASI themed truck and showed it traveling through all the services that ASI provides, represented as locations.
Hidden throughout the planner were riddles for a campus-wide treasure hunt, where students could find a voucher for one of four free quarter-long parking passes. To advertise the release of the planners, I made an animation for the university’s digital signs and social media accounts. As a fun little easter egg, all of the designers illustrated themselves riding in the truck on the back of the planner.
